The Shaw + Smith ﾡﾮBalhannahﾡﾯ Shiraz is a single-vineyard wine sourced from a north-facing block located behind the winery which was planted in 2005 at a density of 5555 vines per hectare. At the winery the hand picked grapes were sorted and fermented as whole berries and whole bunches, in open fermenters, with gentle plunging and minimal working. The majority of the wine was aged in 600 litre French oak puncheons (15% new) for 14 months, followed by a further 24 months in bottle. This Shiraz exhibits a complex nose laden with spice and red fruit which leads to a poised and balanced palate. Graphite, sage, kalamata olives, and plum flavours envelop the palate which is lively and medium bodied. Grippy tannins and bright acidity lead into the long finish.
